Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 12, 2026
TL;DR: Your data stays on your device. We don't track you, sell your data, or require any account. The only data that leaves your device is when you miss a check-in and we send an alert email to your emergency contacts.
1. What Data We Collect
Almost nothing. Alive? is designed with privacy first:
- Check-in records - Stored locally on your device using SwiftData
- Emergency contacts - Stored locally in UserDefaults, never uploaded
- Device identifier (IDFV) - Used only to sync check-in status with our monitoring server
2. How We Use Your Data
- Your check-in status is synced to our server only to detect missed check-ins
- If you miss a check-in deadline, our server sends an alert email to your emergency contacts
- We do NOT use your data for advertising, analytics, or any other purpose
3. Data Storage
- On-device: All personal data (check-in history, contacts, settings) is stored locally
- Server: We only store your device ID and last check-in timestamp for monitoring
- No cloud backup: Your data is not backed up to any cloud service by us
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Cloudflare - For hosting our backend monitoring service
- MailChannels - For sending emergency alert emails (via Cloudflare Workers)
We do NOT use any analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
5. Your Rights
- Delete your data: Simply delete the app to remove all local data
- Clear server data: Contact us to remove your device ID from our monitoring system
- Export data: Your check-in history is visible in the app's History view
6. Children's Privacy
Alive? is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy occasionally. We will notify users of significant changes through app updates.
